The Los Angeles Kings is a professional American ice hockey club based in Los Angeles, California. He entered the NHL in 1967/68 and plays in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference. It plays its home games in the Staples Center hall with a capacity of 18,230 spectators. The club colors are black, silver and white.

History of the club

The team was founded on June 5, 1967, after Jack Kent Cooke obtained an NHL expansion license for Los Angeles on August 9, 1966, becoming one of six teams to begin play in the 1967 NHL expansion.

During the 1970s and early 1980s, the Kings had many years of regular season success, but were eliminated in the early playoffs. Their strengths were the performances of goalie Rogie Vachon and the "Triple Crown Line" of Charlie Simmer, Dave Taylor and Marcel Dionne (Hall of Famer). In 1988, the Kings traded with the Edmonton Oilers to acquire Wayne Gretzky, which led to an increase in the popularity of hockey players in Los Angeles. Gretzky, fellow Hall of Famer Luc Robitaille and defenseman Rob Blake led the Kings to their only division title in 1990-91 and their first Stanley Cup Final in 1993.

After the 1993 Finals, the Kings ran into financial trouble and bankruptcy in 1995. A not-so-successful season followed. It wasn't until 2012 and 2014 that they celebrated success when they won the Stanley Cup. After 2014, a less successful period came again, when out of four seasons, the LA Kings managed to advance to the playoffs only twice. But in both cases, they failed to pass the first round. Also because of this, John Stevens took over the team as a new coach from 2017.

The Los Angeles Kings joined the National Hockey League (NHL) in 1967 and play in the Western Conference. The club won the Stanley Cup in 2012 and 2014 and won the NHL conference three times. Throughout its history, the team has gone through various successes and failures, including a period where it failed to make the playoffs. Currently, the team is known for its competitiveness and participation in the playoffs. The Los Angeles Kings play their home games at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Notable players who played for the team include, for example, Wayne Gretzky, AnĹľe Kopitar and Dustin Brown.
